Who We Are

Brought to life in 1996, Polka Dot is a family-run Polish Restaurant & Café that brings so much more than traditional Polish dishes. Recreating recipes passed down through family generations, the Parys family freshly kneed their Pierogi dough, hand-blend the spices for their soups, and freshly fry the most exquisite apple pancakes.

Serving families, couples, individuals, students, and patrons for over 24 years, we are a local Polish restaurant treasured by our Brooklyn neighborhood. Our story is unique and our mission is simple: to continue serving soul-warming, homemade dishes for many more years.

Our Story And How It All Started

Polka Dot didn’t begin as a Polish restaurant – but it always began with the Parys family. When Mariuz and Marzena Parys first came to visit the US in 1990, it was only to see the Statue of Liberty – not the make NYC their home. The husband-and-wife team soon had a child and found themselves doing the unexpected: settling in Brooklyn and opening the renowned Polski Meat Market.
When Mariuz passed away, Marzena and her children suddenly found themselves left with the business – and it was another turn of fate that transformed it into Polka Dot today. It was always the people that made our restaurant: the family, the cooks, the friends and extended friends, the customers new and old. And always: their stories are woven into our walls, their love infused into our food.

The Family Behind Polka Dot Since 1996

Marzena Parys

The very same owner since its first day, Marzena Parys is the main cook behind Polka Dot’s loved meals – though she never considers herself to be a cook at all. A mother of two and friend to all, every dish she creates for her customers is made with love and joy.

Mariuz Parys

The founder and butcher behind the famous Polski Meat Market, it was Mariuz who carved the space that ultimately became Polka Dot. Though his passing away leaves him always dearly missed, his legacy remains grounded in Polka Dot’s soul.

Adam Parys

Marzena’s eldest sibling, Adam is the fixer and safety ensurer of Polka Dot. From sorting out hot banners to managing safety functions, he’s always the first ready to get everything running smoothly.

Gabriella Parys

Gabby Parys is the daughter of Marzena and is always in her family’s heart. Though she is mentally delayed and unable to work at Polka Dot, she is very deeply still part of the restaurant and business.

Antoni Parys

The youngest son of Marzena, Tony is the investor and marketer of the family business. He diligently makes everything is up to date, all wheels are fully turning, and that word of their restaurant reaches out to many more.

Eric Okon

Eric, our caring helper, is one of the people that makes Polka Dot shine. He joined us in July 2020, and since then he’s been a thoughtful, compassionate person who goes the extra mile to make everyone feel at home.
